How to Calculate GST in 3 Steps

  1. 1Type your amount into the box above — this is your starting price, before or after GST depending on what you already know.
  2. 2Tap the GST rate that applies — 18% covers most goods and services; check your invoice or the HSN/SAC code if you're not sure which rate applies to you.
  3. 3Pick "Add GST" if your amount is the base price (GST gets added on top), or "Remove GST" if your amount already includes GST (the tax gets extracted out). Your answer updates instantly.

That's the whole calculation — no account, no download, no waiting. For a full breakdown including CGST/SGST/IGST split, slab comparison tables, and an Excel export, the full GST calculator covers all of that in more depth.

What does "add GST" vs "remove GST" mean?
Add GST means your number is the price before tax, and you want to know the final price a customer pays — GST gets added on top. Remove GST means your number is the final price already including tax, and you want to know what the original price was before tax — GST gets pulled back out. Always check which one matches the number you're starting with.
Which GST rate should I use?
18% applies to most goods and services in India. 5% commonly applies to packaged food and footwear under ₹1,000. 12% covers processed food and some services. 28% applies to luxury items and tobacco. 0% applies to fresh produce, milk, and books. If you have an invoice, the rate is usually printed on it directly.
Is this the same calculation as the full GST calculator?
Yes, the underlying math is identical — this page just strips away the CGST/SGST/IGST split and the slab-comparison table to give the fastest possible answer for a quick check. If you need the full split for invoicing or filing, use the full GST calculator linked above.
